Roughneck Kevin Dostie traded to Buffalo for Jeff Shattler
In a bit of disturbing news, I found out this morning that Kevin Dostie — the 25 year-old 5′6″, 220lbs. forward that has become a favorite player of mine to watch — is being traded to the Buffalo Bandits. Over the last season Dostie has really come through during some key moments and he’s a great player to watch.
To me the moves General Manager Kurt Silcott is making are starting to get a little ridiculous. How many players is Silcott trying to acquire from his former team? Did he make some sort of pack with all his favorite people in Buffalo or does he just think they make better draft/trade choices?
Based on the stats that I know, we’re trading a 2004 dispersal draft pick who went 18th overall and has played 45 career games for a slightly — and I say slightly because a two or three year age difference doesn’t mean a whole lot in lacrosse — younger player that went 10th overall in the 2005 entry draft. Oh, did I mention that according to the Bandits website he only played one game last season?
Sure, we got a second round draft pick out of the deal as well but if we didn’t give up our first round draft pick for Ryan Avery — also a former Bandit — in the middle of last season that wouldn’t be an issue. This summer is going to be an interesting ride for Roughneck fans.
At times it’s very difficult going from my day job, where transparency and open communication is key to the business, to the sports world where all the fans are kept guessing and only one or two people really know what’s going on. Maybe it’s time to start asking Kurt Silcott what he’s got on his mind. Anyone know Silcott’s email address? I’d like to ask him a few questions.
Good luck Kevin, I know you’ll kick ass out there in Buffalo.

Hey man, Shattler and Avery may have turned out alright but when I wrote this in 2006 they weren’t anything special. Unless Shattler turns out to be the greatest lacrosse player of all time, I still think this was a bad trade. That’s just my opinion, feel free to express yours.
